DENIZENS OF FUE (tm) by Filbert Firx
FIRX Enterprises, in its prime, employed a vast number of factory
workers, clerks, secretaries, and so forth. Over the millenia of FUE's
existence, several sub-tribes, or races evolved. These were as follows.
SQUAREHEADS; originally menial laborers, janitors and lawyers, these
developed the characteristic square head (hence the name), lost much of their
admittedly small intelligence, and became the most numerous group in FUE.
Eventually the majority died, emigrated, or left on endless vacations, leaving
a small remnant, which became the 'wurgles' now found by adventurers. Armed
with mops and brooms, they serve as a check on the beeble population, which
otherwise multiply rapidly. They are awfully cute, besides.
ROUNDHEADS. This strange race grew out of upper management after the
great migration from FUE, in which they could not participate, having grown
too large and sedentary to leave their offices, and indeed their desks, where
they were forced to answer endless questions concerning the day to day
operation of FIRX Enterprises. They are clever in a limited way, and are
sometimes useful to travelers.
DIAMONDHEADS evolved from middle management personnel rather later
than the squareheads. They were the most mobile, and the noisiest of all
the races of FUE. They evolved into bleebs, rarely seen but sometimes heard
(they are always busy), and beebles, the most numerous, as they took to
thievery and capitalism in their slow decline into savagery. A full discussion
of beebles may be found in my monograph on the subject.
